The South Downs Wood Fair was held at Queen Elizabeth Country Park on 9th-10th July. It followed on from a smaller, but successful event last year.
Hampshire Coppice Craftsmen’s Group was able to provide 12 different craftspeople showing various aspects of the Coppice Craftsmen’s trade. This included thatching spar making, trug making, two varieties of hurdle, two methods of making tent pegs, walking stick and wand making, stick chair making, a pole and a bungee lathe, pimp making, charcoal sieving and more.
The rest of the show included some saw milling, items made from various woods, wood turners and carvers with South Downs National Park and the Forestry Commission having stands. There were also voluntary organisations, beekeepers and the alpacas in attendance.
For anyone with any interest in wood, this was a very interesting show. As visitor numbers were good, as present, it is intended that the show will run again next year.
